Cogito Flag Raising

Cogito Academy marked an exciting milestone with a flag raising ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at its new permanent campus, bringing together students, families, school leaders and community partners to celebrate the school's new home and its growing presence in Lancaster County.

Having first opened its doors for the 2025–26 school year in a temporary facility, Cogito Academy has now established a permanent home where students can learn, grow and build lasting connections for years to come. The ceremony marked an important chapter in the school's journey, celebrating its growth and the Lancaster County community that has supported it along the way.

At the heart of the celebration were Cogito Academy students, who took part in the raising of the American, South Carolina and Cogito Academy flags over their school. The moment served as a reminder of the values that guide the Cogito community and the bright future being built for every student who walks through its doors.

The ceremony also welcomed several special guests, including South Carolina Sen. Allen Blackmon, representatives from the Cogito Academy Board, the Charter Institute at Erskine and Tutelage School Solutions, along with school leaders, community partners and supporters who have played an important role in bringing the school's vision to life.

For Cogito Academy, the new campus represents much more than a building. It is a continued investment in students, families and the future of public education in Lancaster County, providing a permanent foundation for the school to grow while expanding access to high-quality, tuition-free public education.

“Having a permanent home means creating a place where our students feel a sense of belonging, where our teachers can continue building a strong school culture and where families know their children have a place to learn, grow and thrive,” School Director Van Steen said. “This milestone represents the hard work, dedication and support of so many people who believed in what Cogito Academy could become. We are incredibly excited for what the future holds and the opportunities we will continue creating for students and families throughout Lancaster County.”

With its flags now flying proudly over its permanent home, Cogito Academy looks ahead to a bright future of serving students, supporting families and strengthening its connection to the Lancaster County community.

“This school is a place where you can be empowered to learn, grow, and discover your potential,” Sen. Blackmon said. “Let the raising of the flag be a daily reminder of the opportunities that lie before us and the responsibility we have to make the most of them.”

The milestone reflects the dedication of the entire Cogito Academy school community and a shared commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students, not just today, but for generations to come.
